U MAD, KANYE? Shots Fired As Rival Line Aims Right For Kanye (Didn’t Even Give Adidas A Chance)

We get see tons of stuff here at Contrast, but this new clothing line is taking aim right at Kanye’s Yeezy Season 5 and the Adidas collaboration called “Calabasas” he launched this week.

Our girl Haley Camille (who happens to be one of our editorial directors and a stylist to the stars) showed us pics of this line she created and we had to share with you – these are some pretty rad threads. The new clothes are 100,000% more authentic and more awesome than any of the stuff we are seeing from Yeezy lately.

Even the name of the line, “Yeezy Season 5.1”, in and of itself takes pitch perfect aim at just how wrong he got it when coming up with a line that represents the real Valley... I’m sure once he sees this, he is going to try to say he was being ironic.. but we see you, Yeezy…

I’m including the entire note we got along with snaps of the new line from Haley so you guys can see for yourselves. I predict this stuff is gonna sell out quickly.  A little birdy told me celeb orders are already coming in and they just launched. Also, those cute little phone cases in the pics are from Wildflower Cases (check out their goods here). “Baby we livin’ in the moment, I’ve been a menace for the longest. But I ain’t finished I’m devoted. And you know it, and you know it” – Kanye West, “Black Skinhead”

Here’s the note we received from Haley – I love it:

“Sunglasses and Advil. Last night was mad real.Sun comin’ up, 5 a.m.” – Kanye West, “No Church In The Wild”

For someone who swears to be at the forefront of culture and fashion, it’s kind of funny (and a little sad) how Kanye West missed the mark so badly with his Yeezy Season 5 fashion line and now his pathetic “Calabasas” line with Adidas he’s selling through yeezysupply. How did he miss it? Let me count the ways… He didn’t just miss the mark when it comes to showing clothes that are allegedly supposed to represent living in LA’s famed “Valley” – he wasn’t apparently even in the same room as the damn mark in the first place!

He got it so, so wrong in almost every. single. possible. way.

My eyes could literally not roll high enough into my head when I saw his Yeezy Season 5 collection. What the hell am I looking at? My eyes are stuck to the roof of my eyelids now after I saw today’s launch of his collab with Adidas called “Calabasas” – I mean, um… what the actual f*ck???

It looks to me like that gated Calabasas community he lives in isn’t just gated, it’s covered in a bubble. If you think the Yeezy Season 5 fashion line is meant to convey the “authentic” style and aesthetic of the real people from The Valley, then I guess you also would think it was normal if you walked into a Vegas club pool and everyone was wearing tuxedos and parkas.

Kanye thinks his gated Calabasas neighborhood represents The Valley. He thinks Yeezy Season 5 looks like The Valley… But it’s nothing like our real Valley. He has a lot to learn. Beyond Yeezy’s gated bubble is the OG Valley: growing up, if you didn’t wear VonDutch, UGG boots and Juicy sweats, you were shunned. Our style is some straight up fashion ammo, not some twisted nonsense camo. “I’m out here from a very far away place. All for a chance to be a star. Nowhere seems to be too far” – No More Parties in LA by Kanye West

While it would take me forever to tell you what it’s like growing up in The Valley – the real valley… I’m talking Agoura Hills, the real (non-gated) side of Calabasas, Woodland Hills, and everywhere in between, I can tell you that it’s NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. to Yeezy’s “vision’ (which is clearly a little blurred from those rosy glasses he is wearing).

Growing up there, if you didn’t wear VonDutch, UGG boots and Juicy sweats, you were shunned. Our style is some straight up fashion ammo, not some twisted nonsense camo Kanye’s brand is parading around saying its the OG Valley style. There is a real look and a real vibe that we breathe and we live when it comes to our fashion… and you grow up in it – it becomes part of you, who you are. All over the real valley, each neighborhood has a unique life, a unique breath – and it’s all expressed in the way we dress.

“You know it, L.A., it’s so jammin’..I be thinkin’ every day. Mulholland Drive, need to put up some god damn barricades. Textin’ and drivin’ down Mulholland Drive. That’s why I’d rather take the 405” – Kanye West, “No More Parties In LA”

So, it’s gonna be a pretty big blow to Yeezy Season 5 (and his Calabasas line with Adidas – can you even count that?) when everyone finds out about Yeezy Season 5.1…. yeah, you read that correctly: FIVE. POINT. ONE. Not 5. NOT KANYE. It turns out some young guns who were born and bred in the Valley saw Yeezy’s pathetic attempt at representing them and weren’t too happy. So, they channeled all of that energy into making their authentic answer to Kanye’s imposter line of “Valley-inspired” (what the hell does that mean, anyway) fashion.

Their line – Yeezy 5.1 – is the real Valley, not Yeezy season 5’s imaginary gated-community.

“Memories don’t live like people do. They always ‘member you. Whether things are good or bad. It’s just the memories that you have” – Kanye West, “Send It Up”

Ratchet, bedazzled, casual chic, plastic, effortless, and most importantly – authenticity Valley is the new line Yeezy 5.1…. the pictures say it all. You know Kanye is gonna be pissed when he finds out how many people are already fans Yeezy 5.1… like famed LA photog and all-around-awesome chick Sarah Bahhah, who shot the campaign. Her pictures of the clothes are everything The Valley represents and more… they are the embodiment of what Yeezy 5.1 represents.

Kanye is not even from The Valley. But, you would think he would have learned from living there… It’s apparent he never stepped out of his pearly gates into the real OG Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills, or any of the other neighborhoods where the real fashion that represents the real Valley.
