Fridayy Talks New EP ‘Lost In Melody,’ Working with DJ Khaled, Lil Baby and More

Billboard charting artist on the rise, Francis “Fridayy” LeBlanc, has already made his mark on R&B music with hits like DJ Khaled’s “GOD DID” and Lil Baby’s “Forever.” Hailing from Philadelphia, Fridayy found his love for music by singing in church growing up. He later taught himself piano, bass, trumpet and drums. Growing up in the church influenced his personal sound. “From doing things like adding choir stacks to the soulful notes I use all come from my upbringing in the church,” says Billboard charting artist Fridayy.

Fridayy recently dropped his EP, Lost In Melody, and wants his newfound fanbase to have an inside look into his real life stories. The Philly rapper says, this EP can relate to almost anyone who is looking for that inspiration or motivation no matter what you’re going through in life.” The EP is off the heels of his recent hit with multi-platinum producer DJ Khaled, “GOD DID,” which features music’s biggest names; JAY Z, John Legend, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. The track hit #6 on Billboard’s US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

In a recent Contrast Magazine interview, DJ Khaled said the album “absolutely met expectations.” Fridayy said it was great working with the GOD DID producer. “Having been a fan [of DJ Khaled] for so long and being inspired by his anthems my whole life, the fact that I’m now a part of one is so crazy to me. GOD DID is such a well-rounded song from Melodies to the production, and you can’t forget the legendary artists on the track!”

We recently interviewed DJ Khaled about GOD DID, and he said the success of the project “absolutely met expectations.” He said, “I mean, the album is called GOD DID, so there’s really only one way to do it.” How was it working with DJ Khaled and what do you think contributed to the success of GOD DID? Working with Khaled was great. Having been a fan [of DJ Khaled] for so long and being inspired by his anthems my whole life, the fact that I’m now a part of one is so crazy to me. GOD DID is such a well-rounded song from Melodies to the production, and you can’t forget the legendary artists on the track!

How did growing up in the church influence your sound in your music? It influenced a lot of my music. From doing things like adding choir stacks to the soulful notes I use all come from my upbringing in the church.

What story do you want to tell with your latest EP, Lost in Melody? I wanted this project to give a look into real life stories, this EP can relate to almost anyone who is looking for that inspiration or motivation no matter what you’re going through in life.

You’ve worked with some incredibly talented and iconic artists like JAY Z, Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, Lil Baby, Don Toliver and more. Name 5 artists you want to add to the mix. Honestly, I would love to work with Drake, Frank Ocean, Tems, SZA, and Ed Sheeran!

Before making music, you had plans of playing basketball for a living until you got injured. How has playing basketball prepared you, in any way, for the music industry? Basketball taught me how important it is for everyone to play their part and allow for everyone to work together with no egos involved.

What’s next for you that you can share with us? I can’t speak on much but just know I’m working on so much at the moment. You can definitely expect more new music from me, along with seeing me collaborating and producing with different artists!

The definition of Contrast is ‘to be strikingly different.’ What makes you strikingly different? My music, and my approach to the way I create and make music really set me apart. When you hear my music I don’t think you can put one name on it. It’s a lot of things put into one and that’s what sets me apart from what’s out in music now!
