Disney is Rumored to Cast Will Smith as the Genie in Live-Action ‘Aladdin’

Will Smith has been rumored to take on the musical role of Genie in the live-action adaptation of Disney‘s Aladdin.

The Genie was originally taken on by the late Robin Williams in the 1992 film, which was a Middle East-set folk tale of a young man who released a genie trapped in a lamp was then granted three wishes, but comes across an evil maleficent who longs to posses the lamp.

Smith has previously been in talks with director, Tim Burton about a live-action rendition of Dumbo, but a deal never came into fruition due to Smith’s schedule. Between the demand of that project, Bad Boys 3, I Am Legend 2 (not confirmed) and now Aladdin, Will must be a very busy man. No wonder, scheduling is an issue! With an annual salary of $30,000,000 (must be nice!), I’m sure negotiations are far from locked in stone… or stuffed in a lamp. *wink wink*

Sherlock Holmes producer, Dan Lin has been added to the list of production crew for the Disney classic remake as well as Executive Producer, Jonathan Eirich via production company, Lin Pictures.

We’ll absolutely keep our eyes peeled and ears tuned into a future premiere date for this one. Especially since Will Smith may be in it. Time will tell! Let’s just hope we don’t have to rub a lamp to make this come true.
