Bunji Garlin, Skinny Fabulous, Nailah Blackman And More Triumph Trinbago’s National Road March Competition 2023
After a three-year hiatus due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Carnival is back and the music that came out surrounding this massive return has been like none other. The 2023 Trinidad Carnival season has officially come to an end, and with that, so has the Trinbago Unified Calypsonian Organisation‘s ‘National Road March Competition.’
The competition was dominated by Trinidadian ragga soca star Bunji Garlin, who received the grand prize of 250,000 TTD (roughly 36,800 USD). The song that secured the #1 spot was, “Hard Fete,” with 135 plays at the judging points. The track was written by Ian “Bunji Garlin” Alvarez and Fay-Ann Lyons.
Coming in 2nd place was “Come Home,” by soca royalty Nailah Blackman and Monk Music star Skinny Fabulous, receiving 106 plays. Nailah is the granddaughter of soca music founder Ras Shorty I, aka “Lord Shorty.” Skinny’s recent album, “B.A.D. (Beyond All Doubt),” reached #1 on the iTunes Reggae Chart in January 2023.
The third place was triumphed by Patrice Roberts and the King of Soca, Machel Montano with their soca super hit “Like Yuh Self” with 50 plays. Machel is also currently promoting his recent remix of “Shake The Place,” featuring Nicki Minaj and Destra Garcia.
